Methodist Women

On June 5, several of us attended the Davie County UMW mini-retreat hosted by Salem United Methodist Church. The guest speaker was Dr. Suzanne Michael from New Hope UMC. She spoke about the role the United Methodist Women organization has had in her life. The special hands-on mission project was donations to Storehouse for Jesus.  Several of our members went to Lake Junaluska for the Spiritual Growth Retreat on June 16 – 17. Rev. Ashley Thomas from Stokesdale led the retreat program entitled “S.M.I.L.E – See Miracles in Everyday Life.”   On Father’s Day, the UMW recognized two special fathers in the congregation during worship service. The oldest father present was Bob Bailey, and the father with the youngest child was Mike Allen. They each received a gift card to Ace Hardware. Congratulations!  Please continue to collect toiletries from hotels as you go on vacation. We will be giving these items to Davie County Domestic Violence for them to distribute to women and children who have had to leave their homes due to an abusive situation. Please ask family and friends to gather toiletries as well.  There will be a box placed in the narthex where you can put your items.  We will collect items thru Labor Day. Later in September, the UMW will take these to Mocksville to give to this organization.  We will be taking a summer break until September. Don’t forget UMW items such as brooms, flavorings, cookbooks, and cemetery books will be available all summer in the fellowship hall.
